Task 30 Navigation

Welcome to Task 30 –

OC4 Code Validation Experts Meeting

An experts meeting will be held in 2011 to assess the availability of data sets that would be available to perform code validation for selected configurations of coupled offshore wind systems. The meeting experts will catalogue possible data sets, describe the effort to transform the reference turbine to an operating turbine, and recommend R&D agencies that might want to support a research program as a follow-on effort to the work of OC4 to perform data-to-code validations. The experts meeting to catalogue data sets and encourage continued research will be conducted as a separate activity from Phase 1 and Phase 2 to focus on the problem of data validation. The members of OC3 and OC4 may need other experts to fully explore this area, so a broader group would be invited. A stand-alone report will be written by the OAs to describe the results of this meeting.

  1. Project focuses on code-to-code verification; code-to-experiment validation is also needed
  2. OC4 participants don’t comprise all experts needed to develop field validation plan
  3. Separate meeting proposed for year 2
  4. NREL (Walt Musial) will organize the meeting
  5. There are three meeting objectives:
    1. Catalogue existing data sets for selected configurations available for code validation
    2. Establish methods for collecting new data
    3. Make recommendations for R&D agencies that may want to support the effort as a follow-on task
  6. A stand-alone report will be published
